a question for a friend please help [sufferer] [alot]
My friend is currently trying to lose weight. it was 205.8 pounds at the time. she is also a PCOS sufferer. she was exercising and watching what she ate. After one month she weighed herself and lost only 3 pounds. is that healthy or not? because most sites say that losing 3 pounds per week, but she lost in a month. So she is very confused and would be very grateful if someone can it to clarify the situation.
thanks a alot

Reply:oh, so losing 3 lbs in a month is good then for someone in her situation??
It can be normal for her. But she should really look at her diet and see ways to decrease the chances of eating foods that stimulate insulin in the body (certain carbs). She also needs to get plenty of exercise and water. With changes in her diet it could really help with her PCOS, which is a hormonal condition which also affects the metabolism, which includes insulin issues, adrenal and cortisol levels etc. She should do some research and talk to her gynocologist, which (hopefully) could aid her in implementing the proper diet for her condition.

PS: Check out the PCOS board on this website….the posters could probably explain and give some insight.

I have PCOS and often we have "insulin-resistance" which makes it more difficult to lose weight. I am presently on Atkins and it has helped quite a bit since carbs are really a problem with such a condition. Alot of people have strong opinions about Atkins but it sure has helped me! Any other questions…ask away….

Reply:There is nothing wrong with that. Actually th eRecommended weight loss is 1-2 lbs/week 3 is considered high and very difficult to do.
Also Weight fluctuates with water very easily from day to day so it is hard to tell if 3lbs is actually what she lost or not.
IF she can be patient Slow Weightloss is the most healthy and increases the odds that she wont gain it back.
