Any info on the South Beach Diet? [good carbs] [southbeach diet]

Is anyone on the South Beach Diet? I was just wondering what you can eat. I had heard that a bit like Atkins you only focus on the like wholemeal bread and stuff. I went to the library last night and they have not the book trying to get it because there are 22 people waiting for this book! I do a little searching on the computer and see what I can imagine. I Atkins, but somehow I feel I rob my body of important nutrients by leaving out what fruits and vegetables from my diet. I thought that maybe the South Beach diet, a healthier approach. As you can see, my goal is not just to lose weight, but to be healthier. Osteoporosis runs in my family, so I am also worried about gettting enough calcium. If someone from the South Beach diet can give me more info – it would be greatly appreciated!

Reply:Shel: I don't blame you for wanting to enjoy the food on the cruise. I'd be the same way! That's why I set my TG challenge goal 5-10 pounds below my original one. We are leaving for Florida on TG for a week and I want to be able to enjoy food ( in moderation of course) without regaining everything I've worked so hard to lose! We are staying in a 2 bedroom condo so we will be cooking some meals in and most likely breakfast every morning. That will help cut out some of the junk!

I'm going to order the SB diet book too. For now–I'll just stick with atkins. Today is only day 2 that I've been serious about it and i must admit–I'm so hungry right now that I'd gnaw on my left arm if I thought it didn't contain any carbs!!!LOL

Have fun on that cruise–you lucky dog!LOL

I figure if I can make it through the induction phase of Atkins (which I've done several times) Southbeach (even phase 1) shouldn't be a problem!!! Thanks for all your responses!

Jen, I am the same way, I like a plan written down to the T for me to follow. I do much better that way. My Mom did order the book but is still waiting for it to come (she ordered it over a week ago). I am just being extremely strict with cal/fat/carbs right now…….til the cruise. I know I will cheat BIG time on the cruise, I mean all the food is free!! How can I say no?? LOL. But when I get back, it will be back to business for me!!

Reply:I followed the link on this site also for some info and you're right Andrea; phase 1 is like Atkins. So, I thought maybe I'd just keep with Atkins for the next two weeks and purchase the book in the meantime–then I should be ready to do phase 2. Or I can just stick with Atkins until I buy the book and start fresh with phase 1 and follow it by the book. All the sites I researched give you the basics but I've yet to find one that actually gives you a list of acceptable foods/forbidden foods. Reply:The was on DateLine or 20/20 a few weeks ago. They gave it a "thumbs up".

They said that the first week or weeks are brutal though. Very little to eat. But said that if you can make it through that stage, that stage was the hardest.

Good luck.

Reply:I want to find out more on this diet too. 3 women my Mom works with have lost about 25-30 lbs each on it. She is going to order the book, maybe her and I can do the diet together. Or a bunch of us on here can do it :)

Reply:Hey that sounds just liek what I'm looking for – I'm a vegetarian and love healthy wholegrain stuff so full Atkins just wouldn't work!

Have a search on Google I am sure you'll find some info! If you have a credit card order the book from Amazon, 22 people waiting is a lot! ;)
