Can anyone help me please? [forum member]
Okay, well, first things first, hi all. Ive never been a member before so this is all new to me, but Im desperate for help .
I got married in August 05 and Im trying to lose those extra pounds to look great on my big day, but it seems like nothing works. What is the best way to lose fat, I mean, I have time and Im not impatient.
Heres what Ive done the past 3 1 / 2 months and I have seen no loss of fat still . I go to the gym four to five times a week I do one hour of weight training and small situps, leg weights not just weapons and ABS. then I do one hour cardio, usually an hour on the treadmill, a mix of very fast walking for five minutes, then run for ten, etc. . and an alternating gradient. Semi
i also see what I eat, but I think I could have shot myself in the foot because I was on Atkins for a year and only recently started, but i dont go crazy carb I eat more than I would on Atkins, but would prefer a slow and steady results than Atkins.
Please help: wave:

Reply:I liked the South Beach Diet. I never felt starved while on it and it taught me a lot about good foods and bad foods. It's similar to the Atkins diet, but not as strict about the carbs. The first couple of weeks can be tough, because they are the most restrictive. Check it out online if you have time, or I could answer any questions you have. I bought the cookbook and haven't tried a recipe yet that I didn't like.

Reply:I agree with the weight watchers comment. It is great and makes sense. In many respects the way that I eat (vegan/whole foods) adds up to a modest amount of points. The more vegetables you eat the better off you are on the points system. Also, unprocessed, high fiber foods are lower in points as well. A friend of my wife's lost 30 pounds in 5 months on weight watchers (she strictly stayed to the lower end of the points range).

Reply:I think weight watchers is one of the best diets out there. There point value system is a lot more easy to manage than just plain calorie counting and is just as effiecient. In a little under 3 months I have lost 36 lbs. I havn't even exercised too much (didn't even exercise for about the first 3 weeks) And once started exercising only ran twice a week and did fulll body workout 3 times a week (circuit training) for a little over an hour.

And yes, that's the key – changing your eating habits for life. Going on a 'diet' to lose weight real fast never works for long because most people go back to their old habits. If you change your habits for good, you lose it and KEEP it off.

Reply:I lost 45 pounds in six months by following the eating plan described in Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat to Live" – am 5'10" and 163 lbs. now. My wife lost about 20 pounds in about three months eating that way (5'6" 122lbs now). My brother lost about 65 pounds. I also have friends who now eat this way and have lost between 20 and 60 pounds. It comes off quick and stays off forever (if you continue to eat that way). Try it for six weeks. If you stick to it you will lose about 15 pounds in that six weeks.

Reply:Find an online calorie calculator to determine how many calories you should be eating per day to maintain your current weight (according to your height, weight, age and activity level). To lose a pound week subtract 500 from that.
You may be exercising regularly, but if you're still taking in more calories than you're burning, you won't lose any weight. It's very easy to eat more calories than you THINK you're eating if you don't keep track of it. I count calories. I weigh and measure everything I eat and I eat calorie-controlled meals (Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, Smart Ones, etc.) and I've lost 45 pounds since June.
Plain old fashioned calorie-counting is the only thing that's ever worked for me.
