It is so difficult to target weight, dress size or purpose or any purpose that explains itself: “There fixed.” Im about 3 pounds shy of my original goal weight now at 54 “, 128 lbs.

But I feel like I could stand to lose 15 pounds, just go by how I see myself. I do not feel like I look that much different than I did when I started, almost four dress sizes ago. I love to exercise and I do so for at least one hour 5-6 times a week. Im in great shape in that sense. But I I still do not think I look great.

Am I too hard on myself, I have my expectations too high? I know my body is smaller, because until the last two years I was smaller than I am now.

How you decide when you go to your goal?

Reply:Susie–that was my first plan, which was why I never weighed myself until recently.

But now I'm in a Size 2. It's all vanity sizing–it's like an epidemic. I am definitely not a "true" 2. So weird.

I am a 4/6 – As long as I don't get into an 8 I am happy.

Reply:But now I'm in a Size 2. It's all vanity sizing–it's like an epidemic. I am definitely not a "true" 2. So weird.

I totally agree with you on this point. Every label has different sizing, and it's SO frustrating. I wish women's clothing sizes were as simple as men's—just a measurement in inches.

Reply:Susie–that was my first plan, which was why I never weighed myself until recently.

But now I'm in a Size 2. It's all vanity sizing–it's like an epidemic. I am definitely not a "true" 2. So weird.

Reply:I think the best measurement is how your clothes fit. I became obsessed with the scale – Big mistake. I use it as a guide now, but go on what size I am wearing.

Reply:I guess you must also consider why do you think it can be better? why would you want it to be better? what do you really want to accomplish? who do you want to do it for? Do you really want to look better for yourself? or is it for other people?

Is it how you look that really matters or is it how you feel?

Why did you make your original goal in the first place?

I have Lost about 60lbs myself. but I can still lose probably 30 – 40 more lbs. but I am not concerned if I really do or not. Yes I hated the way I looked, But more then anything I hated the way I felt. Its a terrible feeling when you have troubles wiping your own butt.
My Health is now ten times better, and I feel 100 times better. I also look ten times better! If I never lose another lb I will be completely satisfied.

So When you look at yourself and you think that you could look better….ask yourself Why do you want to look better? Do you really Need to look Better? What will it do for you if you set this new goal and you reach it? will it change anything? will it be worth it?
are you looking to imporve self esteem? if so then think twice……Many Women go and get plastic surgery because they think that it will make them feel better about themselves………It usually does not work.

Reply:mt 2 cents,
I think it just depends on the person, I've seen women that look great with a little ''extra'' than without the little ''extra''…if you feel good at a decent healthy weight…so be it.

I've seen some women loses way to much and look awafully unhealthy. maybe it depends on what you look like? ..I lose my weight as to how it makes me feel and loseing weight always adds to the vanesness, but like I said you can lose to much.

I would rather date a over weight women than an underweight…that is if I was a free man…lol

Reply:I too find it difficult to determine my body fat. I can't imagine I have an unhealthy body fat percentage because I really am quite fit.

I'll continue trying to get an accurate body fat reading, though.

As for the goal thing, you all make good points. If I were to go with where I'll feel best, I know I'd be happier if I lost 10-15 pounds more. It may sound shallow, but I want to be able to wear a bikini in confidence. I want to be that satisfied with my body that I have nothing to hide, you know? If I've already worked this hard, I may as well go for the gold.

I'm definitely worried it may be difficult to maintain at 115. Oy, maintenance terrifies me.

Thanks all so much for your help! I'll keep you posted. I'm weighing at the gym this afternoon. (I didn't start weighing myself until about 3 weeks ago, because I tend to get obsessed with the scale. But I knew I was close to goal and maintenance, which I feel REQUIRES weighing yourself.)

Reply:I agree that BMI was the single worst invention of the diet age. It absolutely ignores frame size and muscularity.
But I think body-fat measurements are overemphasized because I have never found a reliable way of measuring it. I trust the principles of underwater weighing but I have NEVER seen it offered anywhere because of the complexity. I've had both infa-red methodology and electrical resistance done but the variations are so wide from reading to reading as to render them useless.
As for caliiper pinching, I've never had a professional do it but having tried it on myself, I judged it to be entirely too subjective without proper standards.
The internet formulas that abound that account for the size of several bony parts of the body to get an estimate of frame size seem as good as any but there arre many that are highly flawed enough too be useless and some seem almost only variants of BMI.

I'd LOVE to know my bodyfat but I really don't, and it's NOT for lack of trying.

Best I can figure is that I am a man with a bodyfat somewhere between 13 and 23% bodyfat…not much use.

Most hopeful measurement is that all my life, with deflated lungs, I quickly sink to the bottom of a pool of fresh water.

Reply:Pretty much, check out some BMI calculation sites and make sure you don't go under a healthy BMI.

BMI is useless cause it doesn't take into account how much fat you're carrying. According to BMI, governor Arnold is obese and 5'10" 150 pound male with 25% body fat is healthy.

Reply:I have to say there is no right or wrong goal weight.

At 5'8" my healthy weight is around 140. However, I still don't really like the way I look at that weight. I lost weight before by mostly cardio, I'm doing it differently this time around incorporating cardio and weight training. I know muscle takes up less space then fat at the same weight, so if I get to 135 and have the definition I'm looking for, I'll go into maintenance phase.

Pretty much, check out some BMI calculation sites and make sure you don't go under a healthy BMI.

Reply:I was just talking about this the other day.

I think that I am actually becoming more critical of my body through this process. That is because I am paying more attention to it. Funny how we don't mind that extra fab on the arm if we put a t-shirt over it and ignore it. Now that I watch it jiggle in the gym when I'm lifting, it is very real.

So, maybe a new goal is in order for you.

You may want to talk to your doctor and take a look at body fat %, to see how low is too low.

But, I wanted to say congrats in advance for making your first goal!

Reply:This is why weight is such a meaningless measure. Two people could be the same height and weight, but look vastly different. The best measure is body fat percentage. Things like weight, BMI, or ideal weight charts don't take into account body composition. I'm male, 5'8", and weigh around 145 pounds. According to things like BMI and ideal weight charts, I'm right where I should be. And even though my stomach is finally flat, I can still pinch an inch and have yet to see my abs really stand out. That's why I only pay attention to body fat percentage to see how much fat and muscle I'm carrying and track the changes in both.

What I would do if I were you is first look up body fat percentage charts for women. Look for one that shows the different levels (obese, overweight, healthy, lean, really lean, unhealthy, etc.). Then decide how lean you want to look. Find the matching body fat % on the chart and make that your target. That's been my approach. My goal is to hit 8% since that's the level at which men attain a six-pack.

Reply:Like guy said, it's relative. For me at first when I first started losing weight to get to my goal weight, I wanted to get to 170lbs, but since then I've adjusted my goals, because I want to concentrate on lean tissue retention and body fat % loss. I still like to see my weight decrease, but I focus more on getting measure and knowing my body fat %. With how I'm losing body fat and keeping my lean tissue, my goal is to be at least 14% body fat, which is right inside the very good range. If I keep my lean tissue, I will be at 14% body fat at 185 lbs. I get measurements done once a month and I've maintained my lean tissue and lost another 2.3% body fat in that month. I know I'm on the right track, because I see the results too.

I think for you and someone like me, when you're expecting more, you can get an accurate gage at where you're at if you get the body fat measurements done. Then you can see what you need to do to get to your goals.

Reply:It is SOOO relative. THink of the Pacific Islands where a young woman wouldn't stand a chance of ever getting a husband if she wasn't waddling around at 300 pounds.
Then think of a young girl who dreams of being on the catwalk at Bryant Park or a star at American Ballet Theater…that under 100 goal for her might be perfect for her.

A man can think he's lean and muscular and then pick up a copy of MEN'S FITNESS and long to be the cover model on whose abdomen you could grate Parmesan, whose abs have never been closer to a pound of fat than walking past the deli aisle in the Supermarket.

At 5'4' and 128#, that's pretty good. But if you feel you'd be happier with 113# and you are willing and happy to work for it then go for it. Maybe you'll decide to stop at 120, maybe not.
God knows, if you are unhappy with how you look or feel at 113# it is the easiest thing in the world to go back up. Just go into a Ben and Jerry's, seat yourself comfortably, and INHALE DEEPLY!

We must just do the best we can with reasonable expectations.

It says 3-5 servings vegetables
2-4-fruits
2 servings 3-3 servings servings protein
2 dairy
6-11 beads, and a carbs

Im try fitday difficult time knowing what the PIE should be, as 60% + carbs! I am a vegetarian, so confused, I want

Also pickles, but they are high in sodium, there is something wrong with soda? It is in many diet drinks and stuff!

The graph in general would be divided into at least one of the first three, 1-2 of carbohydrates per meal? Is there an easier way to ensure one gets a balanced diet?

Do vitamins to compensate?

Reply:The food pyramid was revised to the high carb content years ago, and the "experts" are considering revising it again.

The fact is, some people can handle the high carbs, and others can't. And not all carbs are equal. Some turn into sugar immediately and raise the blood sugar level. What is not immediately used for energy is stored as fat. Some of us are too sedate or have too low of metabolism to be eating much carbs.

I recently read a book (The Metabolic Typing Diet)about finding out my metabolism type. The test is right on. The book is inexpensive, and you can find out what protein-fat-carb ratio you need as an individual, and a lot of diet tips. The trick is to understand your own body needs and then make a life change, and not "diet".

I am quite sedate with knee problems, and I eat more than I ever have, and don't miss sugar or white flour products. People come up to me constantly to congratulate me on my new thinner look!

Reply:Im curious, if we ignore the food pyramid; what guidlelines should we use in place of it?

Reply:Ignore the food pyramid. This pyramid is from the government which is heavily lobbied by the food industry and it's based on research which is decades old. In fact, the goverment is planning to unveil a new food pyramid, but who knows what pressure the food industry has exerted this time. It sounds cynical, but I wouldn't trust the government or their "health experts" on this one.

Reply:The food pyramid percentages are:

60% calories from carbohydrates
10% calories from protein
30% calories from fat (one-third or less from saturated fats)

Limiting sodium is healthy because of the risk of high blood pressure.

While trying to lose weigh and stay healthy, it's recommended that you eat the lower serving totals. For example the pyramid suggests that you eat 3-5 servings of vegetables per day. When dieting eat 3 or 4 instead of 5.

As time goes on and you keep track, you'll be able to adjust easier to the pyramid. It will take some time of keeping track to see where you need to make adjustments.

Here's another good site that explains it a bit more.
http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/food/food-pyramid/main.htm

I do not own esteem. The past 4 days I started Cyrlis again, Im not eating until dinner . still no weight loss. I wouldnt mind having a weight of this when I was bigger! But Im so short (50) So, I look like a ompaloompa! (Willy Wonka) Im so fat and nasty.I unhappy with myself, Ive never been this.ANY tips . please!: Confused:

Reply:I just started taking the most I could a day. Sometimes I had loose BMs,Sometimes I didnt. I would get somewhat jittery, and weird feeling, but I would just walk it away, or just keep my body moving.I dont know ALL OF A SUDDEN people were tellin me I looked great,(lost weight) I did look hot,Now Im back to 125 pounds…it aint that easy anymore.Give it a try.:blob_fire

Reply:How did you lose 35 pounds in 2 months with zantrex, please tell me how??????

Reply:you will be shocked on what eating 5 small meals a day can do for a gal. I like you had the same problem i was takeing Hydroxycut and at first it worked but then when i lost weight got off them and gained all the weight back and then some. My doctor told me because ALL those "little miracle pills" are loaded with caffein~ making your heart race and metabolism a little faster but SOOO bad for you because it's not natural. I as over 200lbs and i'm only 5'1, my doc suggested giving up all caffein even coffe, as hard as it was (having a 3 day migrane) i have lost the weight……i'm now 149 and still going down.
I have included Windsor pilates and 30 minutes cardio daily to help me throught my plateau period. ALL in ALL pills are not the answer.
My day pretty much goes like this:
Bkfst: 1 hard boiled egg and 2 slices weight watchers with apple butter
10am snack: sugar free apple sauce
lunch: Tuna fish on a wheat or multigrain wrap
3pm sanck: orange
dinner: Grilled chick , brown rice or wheat pasta, and salad
snack: weight watchers cake
i wish you the very best!! Hang in there girl for you are worth it!!!!!

Reply:hi  are you not eating anything all day until supper? if you are then maybe thats the problem, you body has probably gone into starvation mode as i call it, basically its when your body senses the lack of food and therefore cannot get the energy it needs so when you do eat it it tends to store its energy into fat,and burns it off much slower as it rations it,(hope this makes sense?) i know this sounds rather cliche but try to eat at least 3 healthy balanced meals and if you need to snack try fruit but most important and your mum probably told you this as a kid but make sure you have breakfast as this gives your body a kick start energy boost to the day. i was like you i never ate breakfast simply because i never had the time, but i started two weeks ago, it was hard at first i had to get up a bit earlier just so i could be ready for breakfast as i can't eat as soon as i get up(makes me feel nauseus) but that feeling has now gone, and i have lost weight by doing this slowly but it has worked as long as you keep your meals balanced and healthy. i also allow myself 1 treat at the weekend i.e choccy etc… but i make sure i go to the gym to work it off.
anyway hope this helps and made any sense, if you give it a try let me know how you get on
good luck
lisax x x

Reply:Ty very much Tea. I wish I could have found this board a long time ago, I have a feeling that this is going to be a lot easier

Reply:Patti,

Yeah for November birthdays! I just found out last year that I share the same birthday (Nov. 14th) as the three triplets at the day-care I work at. I felt pretty special.

Happy very early birthday! I'll remember that!

God Bless,

Reply:Thanks for the post Patti and I do see where your coming from. Trust me, I'm doing my best!

Reply:Must be Houdini is being a good girl and working hard…. …

Hi Patti!

Reply:Ummm,Hey all! I am already in the December challenge, but can I also be in this one or is that illegal? LOL

My ultimate goal is to stay 'good' on my diet and excercise until December, but now I hope to stay 'great' until Thanksgiving. I am planning to take a meal or two off for my birthday, but I'll try not to get too far off (Nov. 14th, big 20 years). I started stong yesterday, and everything is going perfect so far. I have not cheated and I have done my excercising. I really hope I can keep things up, things are just so crazy right now!

Well, looks like you gals are tons of fun on here! I'm looking forward to getting to know you (if you let me join….)

Reply:OK, you guys are making me want to go eat!!!

Reply:hi patti!

rofl dp!!!

Reply:Lisa, I know your probably going through a lot right now. I wanna say that, me and my husband have been married for 4 years. we got married really young too. My mom told him to get a job if we were gonna live there. Needless to say we STILL live with his parents. From experience, they need rules. Sit down have an ADULT conversation with them. Have them pay some rent, even just $50, or buy some of the groceries, or pay they're cell phone bill or a little of all..Just as if they were living on they're own. Tell them this is how it's gonna be, they'll either do it, or they'll leave. It's a hard situation, i know. But also be there for them, i don't know what i wouldv'e done if both our parents didn't except us. It would've been a lot harder than it was. We had a tough start. My husband got into a really deep depression. We're just now really getting started in life. Remember men(boys) mature a lot slower. Family is so important and thats what we're here for, to be there for each other. You just gotta tell them how it has to be. they might not even know this is how you feel. Tees, are not that aware of others and they're needs around them. It all abou them. I will pray for your situation. and hopefully he'll come around to reality soon.

Reply:lol dp! we know who YOU cuddle with!

Reply:yea me too ap! i can only eat it at home! i dont even eat it at the table…i curl up on the coach with blanket and a BIG soup spoon! its like an event for me! lol!

did i mention im making some today1?!
lol!

Reply:rofl!!!!!! shel thats why i dont eat soup. have fun on vacation!

Reply:Hi AP! The soup was VERY good, BUT I am soooo sleepy now…..YUCKY. 2 more hours til I can go home, and then a three day weekend for me!!

Jen, we'll be down in your neck of the woods tomorrow!! Talk about a bad time for dieting. How can one possibly go to hershey and not eat any candy?

Did I mention that I'm sleepy?? Lol. Darn carbs. AND I really want some junk food. Swedish fish or Pecan Sandies, lol. Low carb Shel, Low carb is the way to go, when are you going to learn?? AP, where's that Hammer??? What is the code for hammer? Is is ?
LOL.

Anyhoo……

still surfing and not working

Reply:good! im all for the settin rules thing too! like rent!

Reply:Originally posted by guy:
(((((((lis))))))) i would ask 4 the phone too- thats terrible!

Reply:amber…… where ARE youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu?

Reply:snop: how IS that burn?((((((snoopy))))))))

Reply:you can do it jen! good job on the tread! lol on hubby!

Reply:(((((((lis))))))) i would ask 4 the phone too- thats terrible!

Reply:lol on the soup shel! how was it?

Reply:ut oh! another one who doesnt know about ! lol.

Reply:That's my gals~~~busy as usual ! somehow i knew that there would be a couple new threads posted until I got back!!!

AP: thanks for the concern. I'm trying hard not to blow it; believe me! Especially since DH is doing it with me; "anything he can do, I can do better!"LOL I did walk on the treadmill this morning for 20 minutes and I adjusted the incline every 3 minutes for an extra boost. I'm going to lift weights after I'm done here. Anything to get those numbers down….exactly 5 weeks until we leave for Florida!

Lisa: I feel for you and your situation. I agree with Houdini, shel, and dp–you need to start setting some ground rules. Rent is a good beginning. If need be, tell them to give you their paychecks and you take the rent out and give them what's left. My BIL is 25 and still lives at home. He drives a $40,000 truck (completely paid for) and has many other toys: new snowmobile, 4-wheeler, etc. He goes to the club every weekend and plays cards for money; soemtimes winning $100 but puts out $50. He's so spoiled; pays no bills at home whatsoever. He does have a job (landscaping) but he's laid off for like 3 months out of the year and is content to sit home and collect. His girlfriend is just as spoiled. She's paying for an apartment that she doesn't live in (she spends the night at his house EVERY night) and eats all her meals there too. She has a job (hairdresser) but is lucky to work 25 hours a week! Her MOM does her laundry (Yes, her mother). My hubby looks at them and thinks they have the world! I look at them and see that they have NOTHING and it's gonna be a shock when they decided they want to be on their own. They don't want to have children (or even get married) anytime soon because then they may have to spend money on something other than themselves and their toys! We had our children at an early stage in our marriage but we don't regret it one bit. When they are grown up then we will have some more time for us and the things that we want to do.

Sorry, I got off of the original subject! I agree that some tough love is in order. How else are they going to learn? And about the groceries; I would only buy the necessities and when they complain–tell them that you didn't have enough money to buy groceries because you're not getting any help from them!!! I wish you the best in this situation. I'm sure it will all work out–just don't let them walk all over you!

Snoopy: can I hop on the "wagon of frustration:?LOL I've been doing Atkins to the T and noticing little results. I'm so frustrated that sometimes I think, why bother—-but then something inside me makes me keep chugging along! Like this morning; I got an e-mail (one of those horoscope things) and mine for today said "Be thankful for the patience that has gotten you this far!" Amen to that! All we can do is try, right?

Well, I must get the kiddies down for a nap and go workout before I lose all ambition! I'll try to check in later. have a good one!

Jen

Reply:I know, she wants to stay here with me. We are going to take a look at the bill when it comes in and if its over its cut off. I think I can do that because I have two phones on the contract, but I think I can cut one off.

Reply:hey lis…how about having the phone turned off? or is it a contract and you cant? maybe change the phone #? though i guess that wont stop him from making calls!

yea, he needs to go home to his mommy!

but i know your daughter would be far away.

Reply:Yeah Snoopy………….way too young!!

Me and my DH paid for a apartment, deposits and first month rent, that only lasted a few months and back in with his parents. They were working fast food.

Reply:Snoopy, how is your burn? Is it all healed yet?? My daughter's kitten bit her this morning, and we both forgot and then I made her use that germ santizer green stuff, OUCH, she cried and cried and cried, right before the bus came, I felt so bad, she ran her hands under cold water……and it made it feel a littel better. I made her use it because she was running around on her hands and knees on the floor and there was a mess on there earlier, and I did it just to be safe. She'll probably never want to use it again.

I just had honey ham and potatoes (? I Think that is what it was called) And yes those pop tops are great!! Especially at work!

Reply:shel – i really like campbells select soups..they are all really good and they have poptop cans!! makes it easier…most of them are really low in fat and cals..my fav is chick and egg noodle yummy…of course that is what i burned myself on last week

Reply:lisa – that is what we are here for….

i think you should ask for the phone back..if the only reason you gave it to him was for the job that he isnt doing any longer….he is probably calling his momma on it LOL!!!

i am going to be nosy here and if it is too much just tell me… you said your SIL is 19 and your DD is 20 and they have been married for a year… it doesnt seem like they were ready for the respon. of marriage. were they seeing each other very long??? did he have a job when they got married?? just curious…sorry for sticking my nose i..i guess i am still frustrated for you!!! i want you to get some good news!!!!

Reply:Welcome Gertie!! Yep talk about whatever you want!! You'll see, we talk about everything on here!! I just heated up my soup!!

Lisa!!!!!!!! Thanks for the explanation. I'd be worried about that cell phone too. And you know you can vent to us anytime!!

Ok, I am eating one of those Chunky Campbells soups. They are SO YUMMY (thanks whirl, I wanted soup after you posted). Anyway. They are very low in fat and calories too, I was thinking I could replace two meals a day with these and lose weight, with sensible snacks of course. THEN I wouldn't have to cook anymore!! LOL. Think hubby and dd would like that?? nope……… ha ha, good try though.

Reply:welcome gertie!!!!! i think ya gonna fit right in! make yourrself@ home

Reply:You go Snoopy!!!

Shel, we moved them here to work in the family business but it was sales and he would just set around the house all day and maybe put in 1-2 hours. Well, needless to say he wouldnt work and the company didnt work because or investor pulled out and left us with no money to run it. We told him to go out and get a full time job. We also let him use a cell phone (thats in my name) for the job for us. Well, guess what? He still has it and I'm scared he is going to run up his minutes. He was on it alot yesterday and I told my DD he better not go over but I'm scared he will. Oh no, another vent!! Gosh, you guys need to shut me up! LOL

Reply:Hi all…Im Gertie glad to join ya Can we post anything here??

Reply:teashel! – LOL!! you were first….i even saw it come up but decided to read the rest of 183 knowing that i wouldn have a chance!!!

lisa – i am about to make a political statement so i hope no one gets upset…but that bit about your SIL reminds me of how i feel about some of the illegal immigrants we get in this state….i am sure texas does too…but they come in here illegally…get all of this stuff handed to them and then say how great their home country is!! it just burns me up…if it is so great why arent you there???? i know with you though you have your dd there and you want to make sure she is alright so i am not against that but it is just the ingratefullness that you SIL seems to be showing you…I agree with DP that they arent doing it on purpose but you just want to shake them and make them realize what they are doing is frustrating and hurtful to you!! you are taking care of them and they can see that you guys are stuggling and your DH is trying to find employment…if they were old enough to get married they are old enough to be responsible adults!!! whooops!!! sorry for the vent..dont know what do into me!!!

Reply:Lisa, I went back and read your post. So if the kids lived with his Mom twice, why did they decide to move out of there? How does your daughter get along with them? And How do you get a long with them? (his parents).

Just curious…….

I s look at the weight have been looking at various calculators and have decided that I wanted to, so lose 10 pounds that I would grow into a very slim 148 pounds. I want to do with diet and exercise, so that at the beginning of the school [08.15] I will goal.

I have reached do not know if this is a realistic objective, strictly because of my age and the fact that so much in such a relatively short time. But I am very desperate and am eating three fights to get to the weight I want.

Any feedback appreciated.

-guy.

Reply:Considering your age, height and weight I think you should consider doing more tonning exercises to slim down your middle section and other areas that you might have problems with because it seems at that weight and height you are already thin.

Reply:Uh, no consuming 6 to 8 hundred. Although lately I've been going a little higher.

Like I said originally I have problems with anorexia, bulemia, and binge eating. Taking extreme measures is really way I only know how to deal with things [please don't say anything about psychiatrists or going to a doctor I'm tired of hearing it really].

Thanks to all who have given feed back so far.

-guy

Reply:Same Reply!! Please tell me you are eating at least 1200-1500 calories a day! You are too young to be messing around and screwing up your metabolism. If you eat that little your metabolism WILL lower and then it will be even harder to stay at a healthy weight. Just exercise and eat the amount I mentioned above, but no less.

Good Luck

Reply:Please tell me that you're taking *out* 600 to 800 calories a day and not eating only 600 to 800!

Reply:It started out as happybirthdaygrandpa which I took from a cartoon that I'm particularly fond of. I shortened it because another website didn't allow that many characters which is the same with the health boards. It also has to do with a character of mine [I'm an artist].

About the three day diet, is there a website or a book? It seems like that is the best for me. Currently I'm cutting my calories so that I'm taking relatively 6 to 8 hundred calories a day.

Reply:That is a strange username! :p

It's good that you are checking with a healthy weight calculator. Just make sure if you lose 10 pounds that you are still within a healthy weight range for your height and build. Also, keep in mind that everyone is built differently!

Reply:I'm a 16 year old female, I'm 6 feet 3 inches tall and weigh about 158 give or take a few pounds. My body is relatively thin, except for my waist, hips and thighs which are so terribly fat that they make me sick to look at.

I've been looking at various weight calculators and have decided that I would like to lose 10 pounds so that I would become a very slim 148 pounds. I want to do this with diet and exercise so that by the start of the school year [August 15th] I will have reached my goal.

I don't know if this a realistic goal to reach, strictly because of my age and the fact that it is so much in such a relatively short time. But I'm very desperate and am fighting three eating disorders to get to the weight that I want.

Any feedback appreciated.

-guy.
Hi guy – thats a funny handle for a 16 year old girl – where did you get that one ???.
BUT, to answer your questions – no 10 pounds isnt too much to loose…. but because you are so tall, loosing any more than that might not be a good idea.
Good Luck…

Reply:What is the three day diet?

Reply:I'm on the three day diet where you lose 10 pounds every three days. It works for me. the three day diet would be good for your situation and your shortage of time.

Reply:Don't adopt your self-image from what other people say. Been there, done that! I'm about 20 lbs. away from my target weight, but I'm not worried about it. I've just started a diet but to be perfectly honest, if I don't drop an ounce, I'm ok with that. I just want to be healthier and get out of my size 12's. But like I said, I could not lose an ounce and I'd still be happy with my appearance. You sound kind of like me (could afford to shed a lb. or two but not willing to stress out too much about it.) Stick with that attitude. There is no point in beating yourself up because of what someone else said. Plus, you're a guy and 5'8 so 186 lbs. isn't horrible. you may be a few lbs. out of your target but it is no reason to beat yourself up over it.

I used to weigh 220 lbs. (and I'm a girl!) and people often made me feel bad about it. But now I'm at 156 so if someone makes a comment to me today, I simply think to myself "at least I'm not as heavy as I used to be." I'm much happier that way. Take care of yourself and if you want to shed a few lbs. go for it. But don't do it while you're stressing out over your weight … that's a diet doomed to failure (Since many of us are stress eaters anyway.) Just keep your laid back approach and be a little more cautious of what you eat. But most of all, just be happy with yourself and ignore the "metabolism blessed skinny girls and guys" who are so quick to judge us.

Reply:If you feel happy w/ the way you look then I wouldn't worry about it. However, I know it must be hard to work at a restuarant and want to try new things. Just be careful with what you eat. If you feel that you could lose some weight avoid eating out and join the gym or go for a jog. Just remember as long as you are happy with yourself and are healthy that's all that matters.

Im built for, but the older I get, I realize to keep playing the game I love at the level I play, I should lighten. : Roll Eyes:

I exercise all the time, I always have! : Bouncing:

Any Suggestions?

Reply:I honestly think that cutting down that many calories would be unhealthy for you. Cutting down that much would probably slow your metabolism to the point that you'd have a lot of difficulty losing any weight, and you'd feel tired most of the time. It really isn't healthy for someone of your size to lose that much weight in that short of a period of time.

~Jenn

Reply:3500 calories = 1lb. In order to drop 30 lbs in 2 months you need to reduce your calorie intake 1750 calories a day. Someone your age who is 5'8" who is 42 years old who is moderately active needs 3200 calories daily. That means you could only have 1450 calories a day for the next 2 months.
Thank You Michael, that was very informative, I appreciate it very much.
My problems with Depo were numerous, but the most difficult was that I went from a size 2 / 4 to a size 7 / 8 within 6 months (2 injections). And that was in the summer! I used more actively. I am 23 years old, 55 “and I usually weigh between 115 and 120 pounds . I have a small frame and (usually) a fast metabolism. When I went to my scrip for Yasmin to get – I weighed in at 138 pounds, thats the hardest I have ever been in my life. I know not so bad, and that even a healthy weight for my height . But the point is – I know myself better than anyone. The weight I am now makes me more inhibited in bed, none of my clothes fit (I got the typical deposit to get the most going to the abdomen – looking prego due to trying not to get Prego), and I feel more lethargic and self-conscious. I tried many diets and the thing Ive done the most is just following my daily calories in an attempt to cut down on carbohydrates, and work for more information. I do it for more than one months now. And I just continue to win. I do not want any pills to take – as I fear they may interfere with the BCP and an unplanned preganancy would be much worse than the predicament I am now . Anyway. . I know my system should be shot sometime this month esiting 18mo now. Can anyone tell me how long it took for a change in weight after depo noitce?
-Katie

Reply:This is just personal testimony, I gained weight every time i tried a hormonal birth control. i decided condoms are gonna have to do it. Besides unless your married you should probably protect yourself as well from STD's. Not that husbands dont cheat ;o) I guess your never truly safe. I did try a birth control pill once in which I only gained about 5 pounds, but my breast went up do a DD which at the time I was 5-8 and about 115 so that was a little ridiculous. My mother has told me that the women in my family are really sensitive to hormonal forms of birth control and just stay away from the. Have you considered an IUD or a cervical cap? I would steer clear away from Depo…. i have heard that everyone gains weight on that thing.

I agree some people are just predisposed to gain when they use a hormonal form of birth control…. Im 5-7 and when I was in high school I went from 110 to 130 from birth control and an antidepressant…… I was on them both for about a year…. once i went off of them both i got back down to 115 and that was without effort…. I would stay away from anything with a hormone in it…..

CONDOMS or a cervical cap are your best bet or you're gonna have to deal with weight gain….

IF you havent had children yet your doctor isnt going to give you an IUD

Reply:Thanks for your response. I was due for my last shot Dec 17 and I tried dieting on and off and nothing seemed to be working. So, I'm getting back into running – which I used to do in high school – and I'm trying to eat smart, but not necessarily diet. No change yet – but I feel better. DD boobs on a 115 lb frame? Wow. I bet you got some looks (and some back pain)!
Usually, training videos bore me after doing them a few times so I need something nice for me to do. I also hate it when the instructors on the tape to just talk to hear themselves and are so annoying that I can not stand the tape.

So do all good ideas, fun, interesting exercise tapes? Ive heard of some, such as belly dancing and other forms of dance. Maybe I can learn something at the same time.

Reply:Try Walk in the Box by George Foreman. It is low impact aerobics combining Boxing moves. Extremely funny!

Reply:Well, I don't know about fun. But, if you what a good workout try BillyBlanks Ultimate Bootcamp. It's a beast, girl and you will be sweating.

Reply:You're quite welcome, Poohbearspal! Let me know if you decide to get it and if you like it! Keep me posted! Good luck!

Reply:If you have any more questions, feel free to ask

No, that was a great explanation! Thanks. It sounds like fun, but the main thing to me is, you are seeing results .. and that's great. I think I'll put this on my wish list and try to get it soon. Thanks, guy.

Reply:Personally I get bored of videos really quick, I recently started doing DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) I love dancing so when I first saw this I thought it was great but was always too embarrassed to try cuz they only had an arcade version. I found out they have an at home version and had to get it. It is actually a video game and very addicting I might add. There are so many songs and levels of difficulty that I think will keep me very entertained and very healthy too!

Reply:Poohbearspal

Well, the dvd I got has three parts….Introduction/Meditation (14 min), Basic (45 min), and Advanced (60 min). BUT, within the Basic and Advanced, there are different things to complete that specific workout. So, in Basic, you start out with the warm-up, ballet-which is a bunch of balancing on one leg-lots of butt work, cardio/sculpt (even using 3 pound weights is a challenge-you do a lot of plia's (plee-a's)), yoga (just a lot of stretching), ab routine (with the squishy ball-came with my package), and cool down. In the Advanced part you dance for 30 minutes (a bunch of different moves in three sets which you repeat), and then 20 minutes of ballet (harder than the Basic Ballet), more yoga, and then a cool down. They have different plans you can follow where they have you start off easy by doing basic 5 times a week, rest on 2 days, and then they start working you harder by adding the Advanced in there starting of with one day a week, and eventually you are doing the Advanced 6 days a week PLUS the Ab and/or Cardio/Sculpt sections of the Basic. They say there is a method to their madness….so I hope they are right. I am just about finished with week 3 of 10, and like I said each week gets harder, but I'm up for it!

Well, I had only been doing YBB for 2 weeks before I re-measured myself, but I lost 1.75 inches in my butt, and only .5 inch in my hips. But it works your entire midsection hard, especially the ab routine, and I lost 1 inch in my Upper abdomen and 2 in my lower. I can definetly tell.

I would recommend YBB, it is a lot of fun-plus you get to act like a goofball and lose weight doing it! WOOHOO!

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask

guy

Reply:Thanks for the input. It sounds like some of these may be just the thing to get me motivated and keep me going.

Reply:guy .. would you please tell me, is this one set routine, or are there several to choose from? Also, would you say it's more like dance movements or exercise or pilates or what? I'm having a hard time understanding what it is and based on your comments I'm interested in buying it but don't want to spend the money if I don't think I can do it, you know? Also, about how long are the routines? I really, really, want something for my butt and hips so is that where you are seeing results? Thanks.

P.S. Sorry about the pm's … I'm like you, I didn't know either. Oh well. It would have been nice to have been able to talk and exchange info in pm's though.

Reply:I am on my third week of Yoga Booty Ballet, and I absolutely love it! I am seeing some great results, and its lots of fun!
