Gaining weight of energy drinks? [resting heart rate] [burning calories]

I recently hooked on energy drinks. I started drinking Red Bull, and now I drink it [ridiculously overpriced] smoothies from a health point of the city. They have no sugar and all that, but they contain metabolizers and energizers that my to stimulate approximately 140 [Eeek!]

I initially thought this was a good way to lose weight because my body is essentially throughout the day. Now, Im not so sure. It seems that I gain weight on them! I work just as much from the feeding of the same.

Anyone know what is the problem here?

Reply:FYI-
I just ran accross this topic and thought I would also let readers know that these energy drinks can alter your Thyroid levels also. My 18 year old son is dealing with hyperthyroidism due to excessive energy drinks. Our doctor said it's because some of the ingredients simulate thyroid hormone. So be careful!

Reply:i would think it's the smoothies that are packing on calories and not the energy drinks.

Reply:Are you drinking the sugar-free Red Bull? I drink those and haven't gained weight on them. As far as nutritional fruit smoothies, ( Java Juice, etc.) there are TONS of calories in most of those types of drinks; enough to be a meal replacment.

Reply:They are usually full of calories and unless you aren't doing a mega big workout you won't burn off the calories you consume

Reply:Do you know what the calorie count is?? That could be the problem.
