I do not understand . [hefty side] [desire]

Im 58 1 / 2, probably 59, 125 pounds and Im, Im not heavy, and Im not what people think “fat”. I have no to lose weight per se, because I really do not care about the numbers, I care about how I look, and I know that terrible to say, but I can not help it. My family is on the strong side, and I am by far the smallest of them, and always has been. I eat like a bird, and even days that I will not eat, not because I am hungry myself, but because I really was not hungry. Im not fat, but I have some stubborn areas, I work and I feel like I lost weight they would automatically happen? Well, the sad thing is that I do not know if it is possible for me, because if it is I only eat one meal a day, I do not snack or something, so its not like my calorie intake is solid or something . I do not drink water on a daily basis and even if I drink the water you a full glass a day, as half in the morning and half at night. I have no idea what I could do to have five pounds to lose. Any ideas?

Reply:WHOA! Way way Wrong. You get fat by eating too many Calories not by eating too much of "Wrong Things"

Yeah, and what kinds of things have to many calories? ….the "wrong kinds of things"! Like sugars, fatty meats and refined carbs. People get fat by eating unhealthy and that can be stated many different ways, ie. eating to many calories, eating the "wrong things", eating too many carbs, not eating enough carbs…. we all have our individual problems and this girl was afraid to eat to much because she might get fat. All I was saying is that she can eat all kinds of things with out getting fat

Reply:Deena,

There's a difference between being underweight and knowing it, and being underweight but still wanting to lose weight. That difference is an eating disorder.
When I was skinny I looked in the mirror and saw my ribs and hip bones. I knew I was skinny and I was self-concious about it. I wanted to gain weight. But when you can see your ribs and still think about losing "just a few more pounds", there's a problem. It's not a weight problem, it's a clinical problem. Every human being has something they don't like about their body. Everyone. We all want to see perfection when we look in the mirror, but bioligy never deals out perfection. If we don't learn to accept our own imperfections, we become unrealistic in our perception of beauty. A good example would be Michael Jackson before all his surgeries. He was considered handsome when he was a young man but he never liked himself. He thought that one surgery or the next or the next would improve his self-esteem. Now he looks more like his pet ape than a human being. That's body image gone awry. I agree with guy and the others. This sounds like an eating disorder or the beginnings of one. It would be a very good idea to see a doctor about it. It might not be anything at all. Just loose muscles or skin that you are mistaking for fat. But it really doesn't sound like that to me. Your body image is already distorted. Pipermac is right on target. If you're developing an eating disorder, nip it in the bud before it gets worse.

Reply:I am paranoid, that's the sad part. I have this idealistic way I want my body to be, and I lose either way, and it's a lot about the culture we have now. I wish I wasn't that way, but I am. I don't want to be fat, because my mom and dad are, and my brother was until he went on the G.I. diet, and I just never want to get to the point where I *need* to diet, and I don't want to get to the point where I can't get up after I sit down. I want to be thin, not anorexic thin, not anything like that, but maybe 3-5 lbs thinner…I also don't want to lose what boobs I have. I mean, if I gain weight, chances are my boobs would be bigger, plus, my family is heavy-chested, so it's practically in my genes. I'm a 38B, which looks big on my small upper body, and I'd like to keep it that way, lol, but whittle my waist, though that's not big either. My rib cage, around that area, you know the part just a few inches from your belly button, well…that's thin, my ribs stick out, but I think it's more that I have a large rib cage than anything, it's not gross, but it's annoying, and I wish I didn't have that, so me getting thinner would make that more of a problem. I lose either way. I'm sure that if I'm 3-5 lbs thinner, I'll feel a lot better about myself. I just find it impossible to lose it…=/

Reply:Yeah. I watched Discovery Health a lot and the doctor said something I thought amuzing. It was on the show half ton man… he was talking about the man and other overweight people insisting they do not overeat and that is not why they got big. the guy said i dont eat bad i eat oranges all day long. the doctor in turn said, yes oranges are good for you but if you eat 48 of something you will gain weight.

:) heh..I like that one.

Reply:Deena,

I would suggest you consider talking to a therapist. It is bad enough that when y0ou are overweight that you have to consistantly be concerned about losing and what to do.

but when you are underweight and being almost "Paranoid" about gaining weight then it is even worse. You shouldnt have to think about those things. I dont believe it is healthy. you may be very close to developing an eating disorder. It is better to try to nip this in the but now rather then waiting till it becomes a major problem.

You don't get fat by eating to much, you get fat by eating to much of the wrong things. Eating several times a day, healthy things, like fruit, whole grains, lean cuts of meat, etc.. will not only help you shape up, but improve your hair, your nails, and your skin tone, it will make you look and feel healthier all around.

Reply:You are underweight for your height. There are plenty of people who are 5'3' and weigh 125 and they are not fat..so at 5'8'' 125 would be very thin. Could you be developing an eating disorder, or have a medical condition that causes you to have to appetite? Why do you think you need to lose weight when you don't? If it is the beginning of anorexia, get help NOW. You will only destroy your body and metabolism in the long run. As a 'former eating disorder' myself, trust me, it is better to deal with it in the beginning than to let it go on for years.

I lost 1 dress size too recently without even trying. I don't know how much I weigh – I haven't weighed myself for about 10 years now. The scale just plays head games with me because of my muscle mass. LOL But I'm 5'7" and the last pair of pants I bought is a size 4!!! I was a size 6 before X'mas which I was very comfortable with. As a matter of fact, I've been eating like a pig lately…. like tonight, I had 2 pieces of chicken (1 breast and 1 thigh) with a huge salad! Then I had jello for dessert! I ate about 5 times today. LOL The only thing I could think of that may have contributed to my weight lost is I started lifting weights, which I've eliminated since last week. FYI

You may want to start eating small meals to compensate for the exercise regimen that you'll be starting to gain muscle mass.

Reply:I don't' think you need to worry about loosing weight.. A woman your height with a small frame should actually weigh 135-139…

I got this info from another site… your best of to talk to your doctor for an ideal weight for yourself…

Reply:Good point. Definitely didn't think about going to the gym.
But smaller meals, meaning eating more often per day? I don't even think that's possible for me to do…but I should. I'm weird because I feel like if I eat breakfast or anything, then I'll be adding calories, therefore getting nowhere when it comes to losing weight? Hmm.

Reply:Holly makes a good point. Add muscle to look sexier. But certainly don't lose any more fat!

Reply:Deena, if anything I think you are underweight.. I think what you need to try doing is eating more often.. try smaller meals. Maybe try going to a gym to firm up those areas you are concerned about…

Reply:Sounds like an eating disorder to me…
