I really have a problem [bad habit] [countless times]

in recent years (since I entered high school started) I developed a very of overeating. Ive tried numerous times to start dieting – I even joined Weight Watchers last fall. but I can not for the life of me stop eating. every time Im home alone, do everything that I was eating and watching TV. I can not stop. I feel this terrible thing in me that attracts me to food. I know its silly, but the feeling that I do and I need help. Im just so angry and sad! I want better about myself and comfortable in my own body.

the deeper cause for me to eat and watch tv is being lonely, and it is a vicious cycle because living this way makes me more lonley… i know that solitude ( being comfortable with being alone ) is the answer and that i feel better when i eat healhier and exercise…

Reply:I have that problem too, i love eating and watching tv, its so comfortable to me i look foward to it all day while i work. But i know its bad cause you kinda get hypnotized and before you know it you have eatin all the food in the house. My guilt was the worst i always felt horrible after i would do this, so what i started doing was forcing myself to go to the sink and get a huge glass(really big like 44oz) and a staw and just drink water till my tummy couldnt hold anymore, try it even if you do start eating it wont be much. I think it helps cause i still allow myself to eat what i want i just eat like less than half than what i used too. Plus you get half your water in for the day. :)

Reply:Well, first you need to get into your head you are not going to be "dieting". Losing weight is not about starving yourself. Its about making healthy food choices and consuming the appropriate amount of calories. Its a choice you need to make and nobody can do it for you. Something needs to trigger in you that you've had enough of your current lifestyle and body and you want to make changes.

You can start by doing a food journal for a day or 2 and see exactly what your eating plus quantities and when you eat and in your case note if your eating when you are hungry or if your just eating. From there analyze what is healthy and what is not and eliminate those times you are eating when you are not hungry. Start making small changes like diet soda instead of soda or juice, skim milk instead of full fat, pretzels instead of potato chips, light mayo instead of full fat, fruits instead of cookies, chips, and other junk food. Make small changes and gradually start changing your eating habits then it will not seem like such a shock doing it all at once. Start getting into some kind of exercise routine. Walking outdoors is a good start or an exercise tape, maybe some ab work at home. The key is gradual small changes so you don't feel so deprived of the unhealthy foods and completely sore, good luck, you are young, your metabolism is much better than most of us who are twice you age.
