It is not about food-weightloss [ups and downs] [diets]

Hey everyone:)
I started a weight loss program (Im 54 “, 170 lbs .) Im shooting to lose 30 pounds if my body . more . . nice to check through tons of with different , I finally realized that the food for me is just a way to get myself to calm down and fear to feed, which means that I distinguish between whether Im hungry or just annoyed lost, sad, happy or anything but at peace . I just finished reading one of Geneen Roths books and decided to have weight-loss approach is slightly different thing: plan what I will eat * * – instead of what I will not:) . Eat 3 small solid meals a day with a few small bites. go to classes, I enjoy the exercise and I have to stop dancing with a stick every time I do not hit the calories do I have to days: nono: . I think Im afraid of losing the weight – I do use protection .* * And Im afraid not to lose weight – tired of feeling like a lump: rolleyes: Has anyone dealt with the emotional aspect of this and figured it out?

Reply:Hi all,
Today was my week 1 weigh in. I have lost 2 lbs..after a tough week!! So I'm at 168 lbs today..I really would love to see those large numbers but last week was actually doable – I had 2 not so great days but it looks like the excercise and water intake is helping..Have I mentioned how difficult it is to be consistent  I've really been feeling frustrated because I'm used to being in the mindset that I need to starve myself/lose a huge amount of weight in a short period of time in order to feel successful and then its just deteriorates into getting onto that roller coaster of losing weight and gaining weight. I know I need to be consistent and healthy but old habits/feelings are hard to break!!! Theoretically we are able to make new habits within 28 days..I've got one week down so in 3 weeks this should be a piece of cake :bouncing:

My goals for next week:

-4-5 days of excercise.
-new habit to add in : vitamins on a daily basis
-8 glasses of water everyday.
-Breakfast everyday – cooking a lot more:
breakfast options for the week are:
1. omelette
2. oatmeal with fruit
3. yogurt with fruit
4. whole wheat waffles with fruit

6 days of sensible eating ( 1300 cals a day spread out over 3 meals and 2 snacks)

1 day off – one meal of splurging sensibly with my favorite dessert/eating out.

Maintain/accomplish a to do list for week..

-spend time with writing/journalling/art..things that always get put last because of all the things that need to get done!!

Next Sunday – day to buy something special to reward myself for goals completed.

Has anyone read denise austin's losing weight while eating carbs book? I like her suggestion of the 50-25-25 rule..50%complex carbs, 25%protein and 25%veggies. I haven't been able to successfully eliminate any one food for a long period of time so I've decided to take a balanced approach so I don't trigger the deprivation feeling..

Reply:Hi guy & guy, Thank you for the suggestions. I like the idea of broccoli and peanut butter..I think I will try this my next trip to the grocery store. guy, what exactly is the "fat loss patch"?? I haven't heard of this..I shy away from taking any type of medication as I'd rather plug away and lose weight naturally than risk some type of adverse side effects..but I'm definitely open to hearing about different ideas.

Today was ok – have to admit that long, stressful workdays are no help!! Some days are just tougher than others..

Reply:Growing up I was very slender and muscular, but then had children! My metabolism slowed tremendously and there was nothing I could do to get rid of "the baby fat" I had accumulated. But since April I've been wearing "The Fat Loss Patch" and having GREAT results. Would be happy to tell you more, but only if requested!

My daughter has problems with eating when she is bored, depressed, ect. I always tell her that if she is going to eat like that then she needs to eat foods high in fiber and protein. Brocilli with crunchy penut butter is her favorit snack. I prefer two hard boiled eggs myself. If you want to lose weight and shred inches off your body take in one gram of protein per one pound of body weight. Try protein shakes inbetween meals to make up for what you cant get out of food. Dont forget to take vitamins and minerals, and drink lots of water. one large egg has seven grams of protein and verry few calories. dont worry about colesterol. Eggs have good cholesterol and fats. skinless chiken breast is good to. I tell everyone this though. STOP EATING PROCESSED FOODS. White bread, white rice, soda pop, ect. Hope you look great and good luck.

Reply:Hi all, today was exceedingly difficult for me; I *really* wanted to revert back and use food for comfort but I did resist to a large extent..not completely but *much* more than I would normally;..had chicken and potatoes for lunch and a bagel for breakfast as well as dinner..I was *really* craving carbs!!! I decide to deal with it by eating carbs instead of completely depriving myself and triggering a binge..I can tell that this is going to be a hard won goal!!!!! And being consistent day after day is going to be a challenge..Anyway, just wanted to post..am a little blue; didn't have time to fit in the excercise – looong day at work..did ok with the water, though  . Hope all of you are having a much better day!!

Reply:An hour of excercise today..healthy breakfast, healthy lunch..but pop tarts for dinner  I think these cancel each other out!! Other than the pop tarts which were ok calorie wise – not amazing nutritionally; I think it went well..I've decided to curb night time eating by deciding that once I eat a complete dinner (ignore poptarts option above ;) ) I will not snack..just have herbal tea instead. I've stocked up on licorice spice, peach and apple cinnamon teas and also lime juice and cinnamon – which both add a *lot* of flavor to tea.

This is the first time in a long time that I have excercised regularly (3 weeks in a row 3-4 times a week) and I'm finding that I'm actually very surprised by what my body can do. Its very inspiring and a lot of fun. I can't wait to have this translate into getting a lean, healthy body and spirit..a space to be happy in.

I'm continuing to work on the *non* diet mentality. I'm eating smaller portions but more complete meals. I'm also deciding to have faith that I can do this..drinking a lot of water is helping. Is there such a thing as too much water???

quote from a book I'm reading :
"When you are able to feel positive about yourself not because you are thin, but because you are a valuable sacred being, you have begun to transform. "

For me, I need to really work on starting each day knowing deep inside that I am a valuable, beautiful being worthy of being known and my shape is beautiful as I am today..then I can approach "diet" or actually the healthy way of life from a position of strength..that I'm ok with who I am in the moment but I can make better more positive decisions in each moment.

Some of my stress is because I'm going to a family reunion at the end of the month and I was a *lot* lighter when they saw me last..sigh..and I've been really beating myself about that..time to stop with the stress – my normal instinct would be to starve myself in time for the reunion but even reading this sentence out loud to myself I know its silly..that would just trigger some major binges and I would continue with the unhealthy mindset!!!! I'm setting some boundaries and saying a BIG No to that thought

Hope all of you are having a good Wednesday!

Reply:Hi there Chrono..glad you posted. For me a large part of my lower  (now improving self esteem :) is that that you know how when you don't complete things you lose trust in yourself?? Well, I think that sprawls into all aspects of life..when I have clutter, haven't completed tasks that are weighing over my head – I lose trust in my ability to come through for me..which triggers eating -due to stress -which further validates my belief that there's no way I'm going to lose that weight  Is it just me that's so screwed up ?? So one of the things I'm targeting right now is taking things that I have been putting off and doing them one on one..not going into that perfectionist mentality where I have to do all of it at once thus setting myself up for failure..but just picking out bite sized chunks of things I'm behind in and then completing them during the day. I'm also trying to excercise no matter what..today was good 40 minutes..as well as drink those 8 glasses of water. I think tv and video games are good for numbing purposes..you forget you have problems/things to do..so I can totally relate!!

Last night was tough for me..I think if I conquer the night munchies I'll be half way there..day 4 and I'm doing well so far. Hope all of you are having a good Tuesday!

Reply:TNS (too nice syndrome)..and have difficulties saying no and creating specific boundaries..whether its with food or people around them. I do tend to hold things in and take stuff from people..I'm vowing to stop ..anyone else relate to this?

I can relate without end. I admire your courage to do something about your weight. That's why I joined the boards. I want to get healthy and stay healthy. If I don't, somebody very close to me might leave me forever. Plus, I'm on the verge of a major meltdown in the self esteem area. I'm going to stop now too, thank you for getting me on track, and getting myself some ideas. #1 thing I have to do is get off the video games. FF8 isn't going anywhere.

Reply:Hi all,
Today was a good day. I got in 45 minutes of excercise and 8 glasses of water. Morning was whole wheat waffles with fruit (these are becoming my new favs..only 200 cals for 2 waffles with fruit-berries on top). Lunch was veggies with rice. Dinner – low fat muffin;cheese. ; plain yogurt as a snack. I know, dinner sounds more like snacks but didn't feel like cooking tonite!! Night time is the hardest for me..I *really* just want to sit in front of the tv and eat comfort food.
Did some more reading in the evening..agreed with a couple of the books that a lot of overweight people have TNS (too nice syndrome)..and have difficulties saying no and creating specific boundaries..whether its with food or people around them. I do tend to hold things in and take stuff from people..I'm vowing to stop :) ..anyone else relate to this? Hope all of you are doing well..gradual changes make all the difference..

Reply:Ahhh..our minds are such complex things. How do you use hypnosis ?? Every time I go into the diet mentality I can do it for awhile and then my mind screams deprivation and so the roller coaster goes :) ..I've just started incorporating 8 glasses of water a day into my routine. Have added in low fat plain yogurt as a snack/pickme up in the afternoons with a little bit of granola thrown in and have bought a ton of reading material about emotional eating..I think I'll figure this out for good this time :bouncing: !!

I'm also finding that if I have a huge number of "things to be done" :nono: lists hanging over my head I get stressed out; which triggers a snack attack..so making small goals and completing them helps too..

Are weekends tougher for all of you? The structure of my work day during the week makes it sooo much easier to stay on track.

Well, hope everyone has a good Sunday..

Reply:pixie,

I agree that we eat out of habit most of the time. Learning to eat WHEN HUNGRY is the key to weight loss.
It took me a long time to realize the simple fact that nobody ever died from a missed meal:D!

I use hypnosis to force myself to ask befor I eat: "Am I hungry?"
