need help reading [south beach diet] [body doesn]

Im 17 510 and 220. A lot of people say thats not overweight for my age, but you have to see me, I use to play football, so my legs look atheltic, but the rest of my body. I have a lot of fat on my stomach and chest, and he sucks. : GAAP: I was wondering if anyone has used Trimspa and had success? My friend used the and lost 60 pounds in 4 or 5 months, but Ive never been able to stay on a diet. I bought Trimspa and Im not sure if it is just like other weight loss pills that help weight loss or if it just suppresses hunger that is another question. Im 17, and as I said its summer, so I woke up late and go to bed early, and late at night I eat and Im not sure if its because I am hungry or just want to eat, I m not sure that I eat because I am becoming more and my body is just telling me to eat for fuel. Anyone have any advice? Please help.

Reply:I'm 17 as I said and it's summer so I wake up late and go to bed early, and late at night i'll eat and i'm not sure if it's because i'm hungry or just want to eat, I'm also not sure it i'm eating because i'm growing and my body is just telling me to eat to fuel it. Anyone have any advice? Please help.

I'd definitely ditch the trimspa. What you want is something that is going to work for the rest of your life; not a quick fix. Quick fixes are oxymorons, like military intelligence ;) The second you go back to eating how you used to you'll get the same results you used to. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

What you want to do is change the behaviour and the attitude. Chances are you've got a half decent metabolism because of your age. You're just not fueling your body with the right foods. Going the route of diet pills and supressing your metabolism will only set you up for a possible lifetime of struggling with your weight.

Don't think "diet" – think "lifestyle". Make better choices; avoid foods that are processed (hint; processed foods come in boxes, cellophane and shrink wrap), make sure you eat smaller meals throughout the day (5 or 6 small meals will help you burn fat and avoid those late night trips to the fridge), choose natural foods that require some preparation. Instead of white bread or white rice choose brown rice (it takes longer to cook; it has more fibre and nutrients) or 100% whole grain something (rye, wheat, etc); whenever possible pick fruits in season that are grown locally. Avoid sugar in its simplest form (table sugar, brown sugar, candies) these are empty calories and can set you off on a cycle of soaring and crashing blood sugar – i.e., binges.

Get active. Go for a bike ride, a walk, lift some weights. It will make you feel better physically and mentally.

A balanced diet and exercise, at your age, will go a long way – you don't need gimmics, just a little focussed energy and commitment. It can be done!

BTW, fat stored around your tummy and chest is the type of fat you want to get rid of, ASAP. Abdominal fat is linked to things like CVD (cardio vascular disease), diabetes and fatty liver – obviously this is something that happens over time, so please don't freak out. Only cardio will reduce fat, and it will reduce it all over – you cannot spot reduce. Doing crunches and sit ups will ensure nice firm abs underneath the fat, but they will not help you lose the fat. You need to burn that off. Luckily if most of your fat is situated in one spot you'll see the changes a lot faster than if it were all over.

Keep in mind that you probably didn't gain the fat overnight. It's not going to be lost that way either. In this case slower really is better; it gives you time to learn a new way of eating and it allows you to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle. This ensures that when you do lose the fat you know how to maintain your new lean body. I like to look at it this way; the next 4 months are going to happen no matter what I do, how would I like to arrive there? The answer is of course, leaner and healthier.

All the best,
Nat

Reply:I hear Trimspa does not work. Just do a search on this board for that and you'll read lots of things about it.

Good ol fashioned exercise and dieting help loads. And for your tummy, the only thing to get it flat are situps and crunches.
