Please help, stuck on a plateau horrible! [plateau] [calories]
Hello, Im new here, Im 36 pounds since January and now seem completely stuck. I have yet to loose 30 or so to be on the target. My problem is that I do not know how this plateau. I eat about 1200 calories a day (sometimes less, bad, I know) and exercise (cardio and weights) 6 times a week. Ive tried eating more calories, less calories, more exercise, other exercise and nothing seems to work! Im not a lightweight, without much more to loose weight from mine was 209 and Im currently 173. I would like around 140. So, anyone have any suggestions? I just do not understand why I can not loose any weight! It is a month and half!
Thanks so very much for any input!
Reply:I am having the same problem and came here to see if I could find any answers. When I realized I was going to be 30 in a couple years and was still ignoring the fact that I am overweight- I figured it was time to fully commit.
So at the beggining of 2004 I took it seriously for the first time and was excited when I started loosing weight. I really thought I couldn't. The first 4 months were great, and I dropped about 35 pounds. That put me at 215. After that 4 months- I was doing the same things with no results. In the next year I re-gained 10 pounds. This was because I was mad that I was doing the same amount of work to get no results, and started eating a little worse and stopped regular excersize.
I figured I would re-commit when I finally had a proper excersize machine. I got a bowflex treadclimber about 18 days ago, and got back on a stricter diet. I have been using that thing for a minimum of a half hour a day 7 days a week and I can't get below 220. I have lost nothing in 18 days. i do 4 more days a week then it recommends, and figure I am agining muscle- but when will it kick in? I'm afraid if I quit out of frustration- I will gain everything back and revert back to my old ways. My face looks thinner- but I've measured my waiste and it's the same.
Reply:I have to be careful with the citric acid as well. No more OJ. I can't even do cranberry juice anymore. That was my favorite.
I think Dateline had 4 people do her detox and I believe one had a successful experience. It sounded interesting! You must have a very strict diet plan. Glad you found what works for you! I'll have to look up the one day detox thing….
Reply:I'm not able to do it because I'm highly intolerant to citric acid and while I can drink cranberry juice, I cannot drink the other citric acid fruit juices that it requires.
Don't think too much about it getting slammed on Dateline because most of those shows have pharmaceutical companies for their advertisers and they won't give any credence to any diet that's not the conventional type. Ann Louise Gittleman was also on 20/20 last week and they did the same thing to her. I know her personally and she is a highly respected and loved lady, and a highly respected nutritionist also. She was well received on the Dr. Phil show and CBN's 700 Club.
I cannot eat any fruit with citric acid, nor yeast, soy or nightshade veggies, (potatoes, green peppers, nor red, yellow orange peppers, eggplant, etc). I am having success with her Fat Flush Plan because I can just eliminate these and substitute something else.
Many other Fat Flushers have recently tried the One-Day Detox and are reporting much success.
Reply:Hey sonflower…did you try that diet? It was on Dateline or one of those shows not too long ago and got slammed! Just curious what your experience was on it.
Reply:I think you've done great so far! Congrats!! I was watching the Discovery channel about weight loss and it showed an overweight person, how they began to lose weight and hit the plateau. The body is holding on to the last few pounds because it thinks it needs it. That's when I fell asleep. I know, I'm not good for anything! But I got through my platuea by tricking my body. I started doing a different cardio machine, ate more protein, ate a little more calories and changed up my resistance/weight training. That did work, but did take a couple of weeks, so be patient and think of different ways to change up your routine. Good luck!
Reply:First of all, congratulations on your 36lb weight loss, so far. That is fantastic. :bouncing:
A plateau is your body taking time to re-adjust to the weight loss before dropping some more lbs. BTW, you can still be losing inches even tho the scales show no progress. Did you measure yourself before you started dieting?
One new approach to get off a plateau and get started losing again is to follow the protocol in a book titled "The Fast Track One-Day Detox Diet" by Ann Louise Gittleman. There is also an article about this diet in the current issue of "FIRST For Women on the Go" magazine. Since this is a weekly magazine, look before you buy to be sure the diet is in the magazine in your area, as they aren't on the newsstands for very long.
Sometimes, adding a few extra ounces of lean protein can help jumpstart weight loss. Be sure to drink plenty of pure water to flush out your system and keep you hydrated. Don't get discouraged and don't give up, the lbs will atart to fall off again, tho it may be at a little slower pace.
