Stress can really get your weight? [staying in shape] [confidence level]
Ive always taken care of body by eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis. Looking good and staying in shape is very important to me as it boosts your confidence level. I am 31 years old, 57 and have the same weight class in the last 7 years (thirteen hundred five to fourteen hundred and five). In the last year I got 30 pounds, of which 20 were achieved in a period of 2 months. Last year I moved to another country, switched jobs, was a major car accident and wanted through a divorce. My eating habits do not change, but my training schedule has. I have not any work for the first 6 months I did not gain any weight during those months. I suddenly picked up 20 pounds, which seemed to have crept up on me in about 2 months. I knew that 10 to 20 pounds to lose but a few months later, I ended up 20 back! Im really keeping my diet and exercising are 3-4 days / week consistently over the past two months and have not lost an ounce. I am very concerned, especially because the weight is never a problem for me, and I just can not seem to figure out what the problem is. I know they say that stress causes cortisol levels increase, allowing your body to store weight around the middle. For the first time in my life, Ive gained weight in my middle section. I have 3 children and have always had a flat stomach no matter how much weight I gained during my pregnancies. Can stress / cortisol really caused me to put on weight? I do not know what else to do. I am very angry and frustrated. An opinion?

Reply:Hi Gina,
One thing I noticed about your thread, is that you just turned 31.
Well, that's about the age my metabolism slowed down even though I was as active as I was in my 20's and started to gain a little weight. I managed to keep it under control and then when I hit 40 it got to be a little bit harder. About a week ago I just turned 50 and in the mail came a picture from 20 years ago and I got to say even though then I thought I was just a few pounds overweight I looked damn good compared to now. It seems after 30 you have to work twice as hard then when you were younger. Good luck. I really think it's just age and metabolism. As far as stress, I've had enough to write 2 best-sellers, and I can't say my stress was the reason for weight gain. It's called getting older. :dizzy:

Reply:Yes stress can make you gain or lose weight. But other things might be in the picture too. Your age, medications, hormones, ect, ect…… I Love getting older and fatter…….NOT. It just gets harder and harder to maintain any weight control.
