Sweets craving after meals [chocolate chip cookie] [craving sweets]
I always crave something sweet (usually chocolate or candy) after lunch and dinner. Ive tried it with yogurt or fruit for dessert . it does not just cut. I seem to be connected to the chocolate thing. I had allowed myself to a chocolate chip cookie (normal size) after lunch every day, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

Reply:Post meal cravings for sweets can be linked to blood sugar/insulin levels. A surge in insulin after eating is common but some individuals this can cause cravings for sweets. This rebound effect can be overcome throught supplementation of chromium and the use of the herb Gymnena Slyvestre. Quite a few OTC dietary supplements that are marketed for weight loss use these as key ingredients. Although the efficacy of the ingredients is directly related to the qualilty of the raw materials, it is generally assumed that this combination can be used safely but most people. An internet search on either will supply a myriad of sites and studies for both ingredients. I usrge you to look into these for some relief.

LOL – be glad if that's the only time you crave sweets – I want 'em ALL the time!
A couple things I like are Welch's frozen fruit juice bars (45 cal, 11 carbs) or those mini sugar-free Hershey bars (34 cal, 4.8 carbs). The Hershey's don't taste like a regular Hershey bar, but they're good anyway. Also, grapes – yummy!
Hope this helps!

Reply:Check your carbs… I find that if I eat alot of carbs, I have horrible cravings after meals. I try to eat something very low to little carbs and I seem to be okay…

Reply:lol, I tried the tootsie roll midgets and I ate the whole bag in two days. I have no self-control. I do find that a little frozen yogurt satisfies me more…don't know why. But I get the same craving!!

Reply:I have the same problem, but I avoid chocolate because once I have a little, I want more. Lately, I have a sucker. It's sweet enough to satisfy my craving. But it's not chocolate so I don't need more.

Reply:I know exactly what you mean. I grew up always having dessert after meals, so I automatically crave something sweet. I've found that chewing some sweet-tasting, sugar-free gum takes the edge off the craving, and gives me some time to get over it. (I LOVE Carefree Koolerz!) If the craving still isn't gone by the time I'm done with the gum, I allow myself a little something.
Also, I just bought some fudge ice cream bars that are fat free and made with Splenda, and they really hit the spot when I really need something chocolate. They have 60 calories a piece, which isn't bad at all, especially considering the alternative.
I've also read that craving chocolate could mean you're lacking magnesium in your diet. Check to see that you're getting enough. That could be the problem.
