Want to lose weight 15 pounds [thanks in advance] [diets]
Hello my friend wants to lose 15 pounds, I do not think they should but hey what can you do .
she seems to think that not eating anything until they lose it is the best way to do it, I know this is not good. I have no idea about dieting, so I was wondering if one of you can help her, she really wants to lose, so they can again begin to dance and just need a good diet help.
So let me know and you you ill show her what you recommend!
Thanks in advance
Reply:Thanks – I am exercising, also. Using the treadmill, mostly walking at a brisk pace, and trying to run for at least a bit of my workout. I don't get to do so everyday, and had been doing 3 mi when I do get on it, but I've slipped down this past week.
After reading many posts here, I think I will try to gradually reduce my calories.
Reply:What weight are you all trying to maintain by eating 1200-1400 cals a day?
I just began calorie counting, but am eating more than that. I am just striving to stay below 2000. Is that too much?
Depends on your weight, height and activity level. 2,000 is pretty high for anyone on a diet though…strive for closer to 1,500.

Reply:Thanks guys, I did not know I was pouring out Good Oil.
Reply:I would suggest that she counts her calories. There are free programs online where you can calculate the number of calories you've consumed. I suggest a program called fit day (it's free too). Just google it and you'll see it. Personally, I aim at eating around 1200 to 1400 calories a day. I eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, nuts, dairy, soy, whole grains, and lots of water. I also try to stay away from processed foods as much as possible. It's also good to eat a lot of little meals. I have 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. That helps keep the metabolism going and you don't get hungry. It's worked well for me so maybe it will work for her too. I'm also try to lose about 15lbs or so. The nice thing about counting calories is that you can eat really anything as long as you watch your portions. Hope this helps.
Reply:Hey Chloe- I used to do that same thing, pour the oil out of the peanut butter-but then I realized that I was pouring nothing but HEALTHY fat down the drain. Healthy fat isn't the fat the leads to weight gain-and it is great for your heart, skin, ect. I mean, it will cut calories-but it is better to stir in the oil and just use less peanut butter.
Reply:I drink milk and it does not effect my weight at all. No one I have ever talked to on these boards said that milk was a hindrance to their weight loss-in fact, some studies show that extra calcium can help you lose weight.
I would have your girlfriend limit her meat intake for a while-but not completely-protein is very important to weight loss, and unless she is very educated on non-meat protein sources, eating lean protein (chicken, shrimp) and yogurt and milk are her best bets.
She doesn't need to go all vegeguyan, or high protein (like atkins)-moderation is the key!!
Reply:A note on Chloe.Rama's suggestion: Pouring out the liquid oil means that you actually get less of the good fat, leaving only the solid fat behind. There isn't that much protein in peanut butter compared to the fat, and most of the good fat is liquid. That oil not only keeps the peanut butter spreadable, but it is also the mono- and poly-unsaturated fats that help boost metabolism. Not all fats are the same. Eating a diet high in omega-3 fats (if not fish, than flax seed which still smells like fish) is essential to good health.
I won't go too much into my philosophy on dieting, except to say that I got to my optimum weight by treating my body well: nutrient dense calories + more enjoyment per mouthful + active lifestyle = perfect weight management.
Reply:I erased this post. I gave wrong info on something.
Reply:She simply needs to eliminate junk and eat a healthy diet.
Know what puts on the pounds? Meat and cow milk. Animal products generally do that. They give people those pot bellies. I don't care if it's "lean" meat, your body can't digest it properly.
I would have to recommend a diet of veggies and fruit and peanut butter. Get her to eat lots of romaine, cel., apples, bananas, carrots, etc. And buy natural peanut butter — it's the stuff you have to mix the oil into, then store in the fridge. You can put peanut butter on most things, I find. Make sandwiches too, but don't eat crap bread. Just tell her to eat when she's hungry and to exercise. She doesn't have to eat raw, if she can cook she should. Rice and pasta is nice and all, but portions should be small.
Now she should drink water. Lots and lots of it. Don't let her touch cow milk, but as an alternative to water get rice or soy milk. Much better for you (and tastey!). Uh, obviously pop is awful.
NO SUGAR.
Yoga, pilates, swimming, running, and dancing. They'll all help her have a stronger body.
Reply:thanks Natalie, i have just told her about what you say about not eating and slowing down your metabolism. I didnt know that.
She doesnt really like fish so we'll have to cancel that one off the list.
Reply:She would have to not eat anything for about 3 weeks to lose 15 lbs-so I seriously hope you weren't being literal when you said she thinks it is best not to eat anything until she loses the weight.
Make sure she knows that the longer she goes without eating, the slower her metabolism gets-making it harder to lose weight in the future.
Her calorie intake should not drop below 1,000-1,200, or again, her metabolism will slow down.
You can starve to be a size 4, or starve to be a size 44-crash diets and restricting food intake does not work.
You might want to get some books like The Sonoma Diet or The Zone (I don't follow either of those diets, but they have great tips about what foods are the healthiest). She should elimiate most sugar and white bread for a while, and eat more WHOLE foods-fruits, veggies, ect. Lean protein-yogurt-fish-salads-whole grain bread/rice, stuff like that.
