Reply:where are you sweet??? Hope all is well. I saw your other thread maybe you should post that in the exercise forum. I'm no expert but I think if you're eating less calories and try not to use too much poundage you won't bulk up. Please someone help this sista out.

TracyAdamP – your story is inspiring i wish you and your wife best of luck.

guy – thanks for posting that. Your story is inspiring and motivating, i'm a smoker, since i've started the walking i've cut down considerably, you've answered a nagging question that i've always had, is it possible to lose weight by exercising and not going on an all out restrictive diet? Hearing your story, i'm now positive that i'm on the right track. I'm addicted to walking now. Much love.

Reply:The Walking is great for Everybody……So I have a little story to share….. I gave up smoking cigarettes when I was 35. I was a very bad smoker (3 pks/day) but I was not the least bit overweight.
Well, I went Cold Turkey on New Years Eve and I stuck with it…… Yes, I was climbing the walls for a few weeks but I stuck with it.
Then I noticed something horrible was happening to me…. I was gaining weight even though I wasnt eating any more than normal…. Within 3 months had I gained at least 20 pounds and my clothes were getting tight…..

My Metabolism had slowed down after giving up the cigarettes…. So what was I to do ?????
I tried something new (for me) – Walking…. While I was smoking I would never walk because I used to get short of breath.
At first I started with a few laps around my Condominium but I soon got tired of that and started walking greater distances, and faster. Before long I realized just how much I loved the walking and I started to loose weight. I never listened to tapes, though…. just listened to the wind and the birds…

With a years time I was walking ten miles a day (in two 5 mile walks), seven days a week, and I had lost all the weight I had gained after stopping smoking without having to eat less……. I loved my walking, rain or shine, summer or winter…. and wore out four pairs of quality sneakers a year.

This continued for Eight straight years (yes – over 3,500 miles a year) until I moved to a very hot and humid part of the country… so I started walking less… but never gained the weight back (or ever started smoking again..) I wanted to share that with everybody.

So, the Moral of the Story….. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and never stop…. :) :) :)

Reply:I have to give a big thumbs up to both WW and to Walk Away the Pounds. LOVE both programs and find them to be very helpful and successful. My fave WATP tape is the "for ABs" series. BUT, I use hand weights in place of the stretch cord belt they use in that one. LOVE IT!!

Reply:Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone is a pretty cool system, especially if you do it with the weights or straps. My wife and I have been doing it as part of our workout for over a year, and it's really fun. If you have enough space, you just start walking with the video and the miles add up. You go from just marching to knee lifts, kicks, kickbacks, squats and a lot of other moves. Leslie is pretty cool and it's a great video to do at your own pace. If you want to Jog or Run Away the Pounds, you can! I don't think it would really be enough for a lot of weight loss, but for just starting out it's great cause you can go at your own pace and at least you are up and moving and getting healthy as far as motivation, stamina, cadiovascular and getting your muscles used to moving.

We have both lost about 20 pounds so far this year and have really been enjoying ourselves getting back into shape and being healthy. We mix in other aerobics, weight training when we can, walking, biking, hiking, Gazelleing, stair stepping and any other activity we can think of. Plus, we are trying to eat better, but that's hard, we both love great Italian and Mexican food too much.

Reply:Yep, i'm watching my weight alright. I'm trying my own thing right now. Less of what i normally eat, which includes well balanced meals. I do try to incorporate every diet practice known to man in a typical day. Some days i'll have a protein shake as a meal, or i'll have a meal with vegetables, protein and no starch, but, for the most part, i'm trying to eliminate refined sugars and flours (at least i aim to).

How was the weekend for ya? i broke a bit but i made sure to keep up with the walking. Everytime i embark on an exercise program, i get a bad cold then i give up (explains why i haven't been successful thus far) i'm fighting a bad cold right now but through it all i went on that treadmill yesterday and walked for 30 mins, i also included 2.5 lbs dumbells on each hand. I felt great. Today my nose is really stuffy, please send me some positive energy (or prayers) that i don't fall off the exercise wagon, I'm gonna give my bod a break today and hopefully try to workout tomorrow. Take care, keep at it GF.

Reply:Thanks Melodius,
Walk away the Lbs is a tape that you follow…it comes in 1-2-3 mile walks and you have arm movements that go along with the walk. Pretty fun and I have been dedicated to it thus far.
Keep up the good work yourself. Are you currently doing Weight watchers at this time as well? Please let me know of your progress!!! ;)
