Weightlifting / cardio [gazelle glider] [atkins diet]

I posted it to exercise, but here I wanted to post in both case I got no answers. Im currently using my Gazelle exercise glider and what I want to take my weight training routine. How often should I lift weights and my glider to use? Should I alternate? And how long before I see results? I eat healthy and eat virtually no sugar. I sort of low carb, but no way am on the . I do not eat fried foods or fattening. I eat mostly lean meats, salads, etc. I need to lose about 20 lbs. And I know that lifting weights is good for toning and burning more calories. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
guy:)

Reply:Thanks for all of your replies. I usually do just 30 min on my glider 5 times a week then some leg exercises, plus some arm exercises with weights. And I also do some lunges. I'm wanting to tone my backside. I weigh about 135. I'm only 5 ft. I'm a mother of 3 and a full time student so my schedule is very busy. I tend to do my workouts in the mornings. Which I've always heard is the best.

Thanks again,
guy :)

Reply:I'm a bit concerned that you don't do any warm up or cool off periods. If you are young and fit you may not feel you need to, but it is better for your body if you do (IMO).

You could try doing weights on alternate days. This is what my trainer advises – he says weights every day are not a great idea. However, the alternating of push-pull (as another reply suggested) may be good – I don't know. My trainer says you should do push then pull on same muscle group on same day. I guess there are all sorts of interpretations of good routines.

Weight wise, you sound pretty good as far as diet is concerned. How is it going for you?
Good Luck! :)

Reply:Sounds good, much like what my trainer wants me too do but I dont always listen to him…lol…I do high intensity for 5 min (as hard as I can go), then medium for 10 and continue like that for 60 min. Once in awhile say every 2 weeks I do 1 60 min workout at low intensity to throw my body off. You never mentioned your weights routine though?

Reply:I also use a gazelle. I alternate my workouts between the gazelle and resistance bands. I don't follow the video with mine(I could only let tony motivate me so many times, lol) I developed my own plan tho.

0:00-5:00 A nice warm up walk
5:01-9:00 A fast glide pace, not a sprint
9:01-11:00 A fast sprint, pump up the volume here
11:01-15:00 A fast glide pace not a sprint
15:01-20:00 Go back to the warm up walk
20:01-24:00 A fast glide pace,not a sprint
24:01-26:00 A fast sprint, pump it up
26:01-30:00 A fast glide pace not a sprint
30:01-35:00 Go back to a warm up walk
35:01-37:00 A fast sprint, pump it up
37:01-41:00 A fast glide pace not a sprint
41:01-46:00 Finish off with a nice cooldown walk

I created this little plan because I heard that doing burns and sprints in your cardio helps keep up your heart rate. I'm a big guy, not in shape by any means and this makes me sweat big time, I look like I just lost a wet t-shirt contest when i'm done!!

Maybe we could get some other peoples routines, or I'd welcome any suggestions.

Reply:You can do cardio and ab work every day. I do an hour of cardio 5 days a week but I alternate machines and intensity. As for weight lifting a good routine to follow is to alternate pushing exercises one day and pulling the next. This gives muscle groups opportunity to rest and grow on the off days.
