I agree with Julie. I took Phen-Phen when it was legal, lost a little, but gained a lot more back when I went off. I also tried some Herbalife product about six, seven years ago, which helped me lose weight, but…again, as soon as I went off it, I gained all the weight back, plus some.

Like Julie, I'm not knocking supplements, but I do believe if there were a truly safe, effective and good-for-the-long-term diet supplement on the market and meant for consumption by the masses, no one would have a weight problem.

Reply:I took phen phen before they took it off the market, and lost weight but gained it all back plus more when I stopped taking it.

I also tried a few other over the counter things like apple cider vinegar, dexatrim, etc. etc., all with basically no results.

I didn't actually lose weight and keep it off until I stopped taking any supplements whatsoever and made a complete (and old fashioned) lifestyle change in my exercise, dieting, and eating habits.

I'm not knocking the supplements. I know some of them DO work initially, but you either have to be prepared to stay on them for a very long time or try to ween yourself from them after a while and risk gaining some weight back. I went through the lose/gain cycle once and it didn't fly so well with me so I decided to avoid going through it again.

If you do find a supplement that works for you though, just be prepared to have it be kind of like the low carb diet. It works well as long as you keep it going but crashes on you once you stop.
