Who does what to lose weight? [south beach diet] [change in my life]

Hi Im Steve and I am very serious about losing weight.
I would like you know what others are doing so far is a weight loss plan? I will do calorie intake, using the glycemic index guide for planning my meals and even using the as a plan.
I turns 50 this year and Im ready for a big . I have more than 100 pounds to lose, so I will have a place like this to talk and vent.

If one of you want to share what you do take do.

Thanks
Steve

Reply:I'm just following the government's food pyramid and trying not to count calories/fat except if I'm eating something new. Then I'll read the food label. I eat the amount recommended for someone of my gender, hieght, and weight, and I've lost over 50 pounds. I also recently joined a gym, and that's had a wonderful effect. Not just on weight loss, but my energy levels and my ability to sleep.

Reply:I'm just trying to make healty food choices- eat mostly just veggies, 100%whole wheat bread instead of white. Eat only when my stomach tells me I'm hungry by producing acid, eat just enough to make the hunger pains subside. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich instead of candy bars and ice cream for a treat. Exercise as often as I can, which usually ends up being 2 times a week at the gym (30-60 minutes of cardio and doing circuits of muscle training). I've greatly improved my muscle/ fat ratio, even though I've only lost 6 lbs. in the past 6 months. (5'7 female, down from 165 to 158.) I'm trying to lose a total of 30 lbs, which will get me back down to 135.

Reply:Hello all! I'm doing CRON- calorie restriction with optimal nutrition. I've been doing research on calorie restriction for a while and it intrigues me. I'm counting every calorie that goes in my mouth and writing it down as well. I'm eating only highly nutritional food..I've weeded out the garbage and am slowly losing my cravings…slowly being the operative word! :D I've been doing it two weeks and have lost 7 lbs. I've decided that I'm in it for the long haul, tho', so it will be a life-long process. I, too, am turning 50 next month and don't want the added health issues and yucky feelings being overweight for the second half of my life will bring! My husband, while not following the diet himself, is supportive so that helps! Cheers to us all in the battle…. :bouncing:

Reply:Hello, I'm watching what I eat ( I have a basic idea of how many calories I've consumed in a day without counting), drinking lots of water, and walking 40 minutes a day, five days a week. I'm also going to start using phentermine, 30 mg, as soon as I get a prescription. I now weigh 195 lbs at 5'7 and would like to get down to 170, a weight I would be happy with (I have a rather large bone structure anyway, so it would look fine). Cheeers..

Reply:CALORIE COUNTING here: 60 days and 15 pounds down…10 to go! I'm 6'2" and large framed so I find that 2200 kcal/day will give me good weightloss along with a pretty steady workout schedule (weights, machines and stationary bike.)
I just got another 400 page notebook so I'm good to go for the next year! At goal, I will try a boost to 2500 kcal/day (as a first approximation) for LIFE and I'll continue to record lest I go flopsy again!:( It's easy to get really sloppy when not recording…
I find a food scale a sine qua non! The USDA lists come in very handy too.

Reply:I am doing what is called the naturally thin program, it really is not a reduced caloire diet per say but is based on the theory of adaptations and how the famine feast cycle keeps people fat.

I lost 20 pounds, and 3 sizes so far, this plan however is not for people who want quick results but people who want to be cured of "weight watching" and portion control and worrying about every bite of food that passes the lips, and there are no bad foods, and no portion control.

I have been following it for three years, but have alot left to lose, but there are other signs that tell you that you are recovered from the famine feast cycle adn that weight loss is just around the corner, permanent weight loss, that is.

if you are very obese the wait can be a year or more to see results, and it can take 3-10 years to finally reach a healthy natural weight (even tho you lose a little plataue lose a little repeat) depending how severe past dieting has been, how much weight was lost, regained, etc the yo yo cycle, how long you have been on the famine feast cycle, etc.someone who is moderate overweight and has no severe food restriction history it will probably go faster than that time frame.

Reply:Hi,
I am also doing calories. i need to loose a total of 120 pounds. i started my diet 5 1/2 weeks ago and have lost 30 pounds so far. i hit a platue at 20 pounds and stayed there for over a week. that is where i usaully give up from frustration. but i went out and baught a mini trampoline and jump for 30 min a day. so i am very excited. i am now 1/4 the way to my goal! my dr perscribed phentermine and i started taking it a week ago. it really helps a lot. i was quite bitcy for the first few days but i'v settled into it and am fine now. good luck! – i know some are going to say looseing weight this quickly is bad but i am seeing my dr every month and being this over weight is very unhealthy too. my dr said diabeties was right around the corner for me if i didn't do something about my weight.
