Why am I not losing weight? [target weight] [why am i not losing weight]
On January 1st I have a strict diet to 1200 calories a day to exercise that entails jog / walk 6 miles a week day.
Last began, I noticed that I had lost 5 pounds. This week Im back where I started. It is a real downer to look back how hard I work and be back where I started. Last week when I progress seiing really stimulated my motivation. But now Im pretty bummed out.
I 5 9 “and 165 pounds. My goal weight is 140 pounds. I used to get very rapid weight loss through the use of prescription diet pills, but the weight always came back after I stopped them, so I tried to get it right this time.
Is this “one step forward, two steps back “normal when trying to lose weight the right way?
Reply:Hello there-
My husband gets on the scale everyday and it always is going lower, however, my weight will fluctuate between 3 lbs. within one day. I'm happy for him, but frustrated for myself. I agree that women's weight tend to move up and down more due to water retention. That's why I look at the overall trend of my weight not just on one particular day, but it's only human to feel discouraged when you have worked so hard, we want to see the results. So hang in there, patience is the key to long term weight loss in my opinion.

Same thing was happening to me, lost four pounds my first week, then nothing for three weeks. Meanwhile, I'm watching DH get on the scale every Sunday morning and it's down another couple pounds. He loved the scale; I hated it with every fiber of my being.
After a month, even though the scale wasn't moving, my clothes were much looser and I could fit into things I couldn't before. I stopped getting on the scale weekly. It was just way too discouraging. I continued with my low-cal diet, exercise routine and now get on it once a month.
Not sure if you're a woman, but I think women's weights fluctuate much more than men's weights. I could see this firsthand with just DH and I, and I know other couples who are dieting that go through the same thing. Most women I know advocate a measuring tape once a week; most men I know advocate getting on the scale every day.
Don't forget, too, that you may be adding muscle by the jog/walk, which weighs more than fat!
Don't be bummed

Reply:yes,it always is. I spent years losing weight and this is the patern. Everything depends on the routine you use and the body always adapting. Nature demands adapting to changes . the diet pills work but once stopped then the body goes back to where it was before ,so why waste the money.I lost 400lbs since I started in 1967. I think that you just have to have a mind set to simply keep steady and continue the struggle.
